About The Role

The Registered Nurse in Rehabilitation and Stroke, provides contemporary, evidence based nursing services and demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by achievement of the standards of practice and registration requirements from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This is evidenced by educational preparation, continuing professional development, adhering to relevant legislation and the context of care.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Contemporary clinical knowledge in the area of Rehabilitation and Stroke nursing, delivering competent nursing care in complex situations while providing support to other team members.
  • Ability to provide patient and family centred care to the patient using best practice and within the standard of practice of a Registered Nurse.
  • Ability to communicate to a high standard effectively and engage with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors whilst displaying a high level of professional nursing care.
  • Ability to educate, inform, counsel and support patients and families on general and clinical information relevant to patient's care, accessing the Clinical Nurse when expert advice is required.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks.
Service Description

The Rehabilitation & Stroke Unit consists of 24 inpatient beds with the footprint of 29 total beds. As the need for Rehabilitation services increases West Moreton have also included Boonah Hospital as Part of the new Rehabilitation model of care. A consultation service operates out of CBRT (Community Based Rehabilitation Team) and a RRST (Rapid Response Stroke Team). This service has close links with Emergency department and Medical Teams.

Ipswich Hospital Rehabilitation Unit has been recognised during annual AROC awards and received awards for Most Complete Data, Most Improved Rehabilitation Outcomes, Improved Reconditioning Rehabilitation Outcomes.

Ipswich Hospital Stroke Services received a Certificate of Merit in the Australian Stroke Coalition Quality Stroke Service Awards in recognition of the quality of care provided.

Ward 6B deliver excellent multidisciplinary, individualized, goal centered care at the care setting that best meets the needs of the patients, with the intent of returning them to their community. In the Rehabilitation and Stroke Unit we provide care for acute stroke, rehabilitation, and acute medical patients independently and interdependently alongside a multidisciplinary team. As part of the team we demonstrate the ability to document patient care accurately in accordance with FIM and acute stroke guidelines.
