Purpose of the role

We are looking for an experienced Teacher Aide who can work within our Creative Industries Department to assist in the delivery of visual art lessons, studio management and the presentation of student work.

This position is an opportunity for someone who has a passion for art and helping students learn more about this subject. While an ideal candidate will have a broad technical background in visual art, this role will require a high level of cleaning, resource acquisition and preparation together with equipment maintenance. Engagement with school-specific cultural activities and projects (murals, installations, gallery visits and theatre production sets and props) necessitates strong organisational, relational and practical skills.

This position is located on our Secondary (Stuart Street) Campus and reports to the Head of Secondary, with day-to-day instruction and duties given by the Secondary Visual Art Teacher.

Requirements of the position

As a Teacher Aide you are part of a professional team of educators that have a passion for teaching young people. You have excellent communication skills, are team-orientated, show a willingness to embrace the challenges of a changing educational context and are reliable, trustworthy, and ethical. The skills and attributes sought for this role are:

  • Strength, patience and enthusiasm in working with students studying Visual Art
  • General visual arts knowledge with technical skill in one or more media areas, to be able to assist students in line with the instructions given by the classroom teacher
  • Experience and skill to capture and edit photos and videos (using Mac devices) for the documentation of students’ work
  • An understanding of the social and emotional supports necessary for supporting students in their studies
  • A willingness to support the overall goals of the Creative Industries department and work as part of a cohesive team
  • Well-developed communication skills, to work smoothly with students, their teachers and other staff

Non-teaching applicants must hold a current Blue Card or be eligible to obtain a Blue Card before commencing employment with the College. Applicants must have a practising Christian faith and be actively involved in a church. Position salary

The salary for this position will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant but will be in line with the relevant award. The expected salary range for this position is $27.37 - $31.14 per hour.

This position is a permanent position within our College, working 6.5 hours per day during the school term.
